What is Foreshadows?
An illustrated paperback anthology (collection of short stories) combined with a CD soundtrack.
Every story is paired with a piece of music, be it song or instrumental.
It looks quite a bit like this:
Why is there music?
For listening to, either by itself or as a soundtrack for any given story. In creating Foreshadows: The Ghosts of Zero,
the music was an intrinsic part of each story’s identity; each is the dedicated soundtrack for the story
it’s paired with. Likewise, you can think of the book as the CD’s extensive, more narrative booklet of
lyrics—or subtext. The stories are the music’s written accompaniment.
Can I get an e-book version?
Yes! The e-book of Foreshadows: The Ghosts of Zero is being sold here at BaenEbooks.com. Aside from being compatible with nearly every kind of e-reader, the purchase allows you to download all the music as MP3s.
Will this book+CD sold in stores? Is there an ISBN?
There are only a few stores on the planet that carry physical copies of Foreshadows: The Ghosts of Zero right now. If you'd like one near you to be among them, have 'em contact us at info@foreshadows.net. The ISBN is 978-1-4675-1060-8
Can I get it on Amazon.com?
Not yet. Maybe one day, but we're not feeling too cozy with Amazon just yet. Did you know they keep at least 55% of your sales? Ouch. We're pretty indie and have little interest in helping prop up big corporations like that. It's too Foreshadowsian for our tastes. For now.
What kind of subject matter is Foreshadows?
Science fiction, to be sure! It's generally dark and gritty, with one foot knee-deep in the
subgenre of cyberpunk. But we're hoping you'll find a spark or two of hope amidst all the
torn circuitry.
What age level is Foreshadows appropriate for?
The music contains no explicite lyrics, and we tried to keep to a general PG-13 vibe for violence, language and adult situations. We'd recommend adults read any given story before putting it in front of anyone under age 13.
Are the stories connected? Is there any order to them?
Well, there is a story/track order, so you know which story pairs with which piece of music.
But like most anthologies, you can read the stories in any order. They all take place in the
same future vision of Earth, though in different places and in various times. And there are
more than a few place- and character-crossovers between the stories, too.
However, there is one 4-part story—what we call the "Geist" saga—which altogether
is more of a novella than a series of short stories. Those are best read in sequential
order (1:4, 2:4, etc.).
Who's putting this out?
The Very Us Artists, a consortium of artists, authors, and musicians.
Who are these authors and musicians?
A whole gaggle of folks! Some are veteran writers, like Ed Greenwood (creator of The Forgotten
Realms) and Robert Randisi (“the last of the pulp writers”), but we've also got quite a few
other established and up-and-coming authors. And the music team consists of guys like
cosmopolitan composer Gene Pritsker, worldly wanderer Michelangelo, drummer/DJ/producer Bilian,
and the indomitable another cultural landslide. Just to name a few!
